Asian Speed Dating Firm Founder Avoids Arranged Marriage
London, UK (PRWeb) April 3, 2007 -- Amit Kumar is terrified that his parents will find out, he explains from his apartment in Central London. While giving the interview, they have called him twice. Evidently discovery is not impossible.
"I will never hear the end of it," Mr Kumar explains. "I will get a massive ear bashing and end up in the dog-house for a long time. My parents are worried that I will meet the wrong type of people at events like ours. In fact, the women who attend our events are professionals often looking for long term partners and are perfect marriage material."
His hope is that if he is really active in his search for the perfect partner, he can find her before his parents find out that he is running a dating business. Whilst he is now too busy running the company to attend the events himself, Amit confesses that his initial motivation was not business oriented.
"My parents are always trying to match make me with girls they think are 'suitable'. They are always telling me, you know, 'Amit, have you met your cousin's friend, so-and-so? She is very pretty and is only over here for a few weeks. Why don't we have dinner with her next week?' The problem is that you are very unlikely to find your perfect partner from such a relatively small group of introductions. Most married people have met hundreds of others before settling with their partner," explains Mr Kumar. "I thought that (speed dating) would be a great way for my friends and I to meet single women from similar backgrounds (smiles). The events were planned as one-off nights out. Afterwards though, some people asked when the next event was. I confessed that I hadn't planned any more, but was starting to think that I should."
Having organised VXdate's first few events by inviting friends, friends-of-friends and marketing amongst the Indian community, he now believes there is real demand for similar events. The events solve a problem that many UK Asians face. How do you find a partner from a similar background, outside of your immediate friendship circle that you also have a rapport with? With this in mind, the company has catered for two main demographics, Indians (see http://www.vxdate.com/indian-speed-dating.php) and Muslims (see http://www.vxdate.com/muslim-speed-dating.php). Mr Kumar is also keen to address other religious and ethnic groups in the near future.
Bookings were initially done over the phone with a pen and paper, but VXdate is moving online to streamline the process. With most of their competition online, this is a tough market to crack. "Since I am not a technical person, setting up the website has been difficult." Mr Kumar explains. "However, despite some teething problems, we expect our online booking form to be taking most of the load, freeing us up to concentrate on the events themselves."
To find out more information, or to book a place at an event, contact VXdate. The company insists that you don't need to be in the same position as its founder to sign up.
